Another collection of catch results from my suburban back garden here in North-east Stevenage.
It's been a tough year for numbers and species for me, and with ever-increasing competing light sources from neighbour's and street lights on until 1am (Which then come on again at 4, bizzare!) it's not been the most prolific year.
Having said that, what i've lacked in quantity, somehow i've made up in quality as I still continue to add new species to the garden list after 9 years.
Two cracking records came last week, equally as spectacular as each other.
Balsam Carpet, a moth i've recorded once at a local woodland was a big surprise in the garden trap, with no stands of Orange or Himalayan Balsam anywhere nearby, it must have wandered considerably.
And then I checked yet another Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing for Langmaid's, and bingo! A second record for Herts, but no doubt a lot slip through the net unchecked.
If that wasn't enough, a 3rd moth was new for the garden, the clothes moth Tinea bisselliella. This moth was only new for me this year (Having found one where I work at a community centre).
The garden now has 772 species on the checklist since August 2012.
