Chippenham Fen - Field Trip - 07/09/21

I made another (And probably final trip, due to the impending darkness in the evenings now) trip to Chippenham Fen last week.

 

The night was full of Caddis-flies, and moths were slow to come to the traps despite the mild temperature overnight being no lower than 15 degrees. 

I decided to have an early finish, and was packed up and away from the site by 11:30pm (With lights on at 7:30pm, 4 hours was plenty of time).

The best moths were two very good Cambridgeshire records.

The first one was an Agonopterix nervosa, 2 previous County records and last seen in 1994!

Another County 3rd was a single Stenolechia gemmella in the 250w Trap, last seen in 2017.

Other notables were a fresh Chevron, an aberrant late Clouded Border, and 8 Epinotia immundana second broods.

Now living right around the corner from this fantastic reserve, I shall be back as early as I can next year.
